Basic Principles What does a tag contain (RFID)?

RFID in HF (13,56 MHz)

RFID in UHF (~900 MHz)

Dipole Antenna

GroundingChip

Condenser

Coil Antenna

Chip

The chip may contain:• Data ROM (identificator)• Data R/W (information)• A cryptographic processor

1. Global standards

Why are global standards important?

REDUCE COMPLEXITY• Within organizations• Between organizations• For HW and SW production and purchase decisions

REDUCE COST• Implementation• HW and SW integration

FACILITATE TRADING PARTNER COLLABORATION

ALLOW ORGANIZATIONS TO FOCUS MORE ON HOW TO USE INFORMATION THAN HOW TO GET INFORMATION

• Global standards Standards and technology

GEN-2 The global standard for UHF

Global regulatory compliance

Fast read speed (up to 1.000 tags/s)

Memory write (up to 7 tags/s)

Dense reader operations (aloha algorithm) Kill security (32 bit password) Low cost potential

• Global standards Regulatory infrastructure

Spectrum allocation to allow use of GEN-2

UHF spectrum (860-960 MHz)

Power regulations (2W erp/4W eirp)

Significant progress made:

• Global standards GEN-2 operation range

GEN-2 can operate worldwide

Same tag operates in Asia/Europe/US

Have exceptional sensitivity across all regions

No need to use different tags for different locations

1. Tags performance

Página 12

• Tags performance key points

Product material types: paper, plastic, metal, liquid

Orientation sensitivity

Read range

Form factor

• Material dependence of global tags performance

Tag performance can be affected by the type of material it is applied to, causing the antenna to be ‘detuned’. lower probability of read success.

Choose the right tag for the right purpose: corrugated, metal, or liquid.

AIDA Centre’s mission is to become a European leader in the field of RFID solutions, products, and technology.

AIDA Centre researches and develops RFID technology and products for specific sectors, with the support of the Technical University of Catalonia, the Telecommunications Technology Centre of Catalonia, Philips, the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation, and the ESADE Business Schools.

AIDA Centre’s shareholders are 6 individual partners ( forming a team with a strong background in RFID technology, research, technology, and business), the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (controlled by the Generalitat de Catalunya regional government), Philips, and the VC fund Innova31 (which has as its main participants the Technical University of Catalonia, and the Caixa de Catalunya savings bank).

AIDA Centre has closed and continues to seek preferential agreements with the main manufacturers of RFID technology.

AIDA Centre is a member of EPC Global, the most important standards organisation in RF labelling and electronic product codes.
