01/BADRAK RESIDENCEDavid Sharff Architect, P.C

This house is distinguished in a busy neighbour-hood of Brookline with its unique shape and un-finished construction. It requires a re-modeling of exterior and all interior spaces by integrating a contemporary design. The primary concept is to create a cohesive transition and consistent integra-tion between the interior and exterior of the home and between interior spaces. The important exteri-or features of the contemporary design; natural Ipe siding, neutral colored stucco, a large stone fire-place and large expansive windows that let in light and provide city and park views will be reaffirmed within the interiors. Selection of colors, textures and choices of materials for interior finishes will cre-ate a harmonious transition between interior and exterior architecture.

02/PICKETT RESIDENCE

This two story house is located on a suburb area demands an expansion of the structure; addition of rooms in both floors and a kitchen re-modeling. Existing roof,walls,foundation,win-dows and doors will be removed and the new design integrates a hip roof that is balanced with the new deck. Also a new functional lay-out is introduced for the kitchen which creates more space, balance and smooth transition to the other areas of the house. The new design conceives more depth and height to the structure with the combination of different roofs and addition of dormers on the second floor.

This communal area located on campus and enclosed by dormitory buildings, calls for a creative design and a more efficient use of space. The goal is to provide students with an ideal public gathering place by integrating landscape elements into the pavement. The main challenge was the slope of the ground as it elevates towards the buildings. We created a unique and thoughtful design that corresponds to these factors by incorporating stairs and ramps with railings. The concrete and curved walls are the highlight of the design and define the space into sections.

The USA and Canada border station is located on the Derby line on route 90. A major consid-eration of the design is vehicle circulation and security toll booths. A “Z” shape is created by altering the rectangular shapes in a symmetrical way. They correspond to the movement of cars on each direction.

05/ASTRONOMY INSTITUTE

The goal of this project is to create an institute of astronomy research and exhibition, whose form represents its purpose. The circular de-sign is inspired by the galaxy shape;the round structure that holds two wings on each side. This form will allow guests to experience their visit in a fascinating way as they walk in circular movements while exploring the exhibition.

The wing structures are categorized into public vs. private areas. The exhibition room and administration offices lie on the lower structure. Astronomy and research rooms lie on the upper structure, which is the private space.
