Standards To Burn C O N O S T A N metal lo-organic standards are spe
cially prepared organic sulfonates in an oi l base. They are used extensively in the cal ibrat ion of
instruments for the analysis of metals in oi l or organic solvents. The variety of forms affords convenience as a reference material for individual metals in atomic absorpt ion or blends in emission spectrometr ic analyses.

The matrix oil for these standards is white mineral oil with a 17 cSt viscosity at 100°F and a flash point of 340°F.
Individual CONOSTAN standards provide consistent composition and performance. They can be used as a source of individual or multi-element calibrating standards for all types of spectrometric methods of analysis. These standards are readily soluble in ketones as well as aromatic and paraffinic hydrocarbons without the aid of solubilizers.
Concentrates The metals listed in the table under 5000 p p m
standards are available as concentrates. The metal con tent varies w i th each concentrate. These standards are f lu id and capable of easy b lend ing w i th oil and each other for special b lend requirements. The level of metal in each concentrate is available o n request and ranges f rom 0.5-13%.
Blended Standards C O N O S T A N b lended standards are un ique for the
direct-reading emission spectrometr ic determinat ion of trace metals in o i l .
C O N O S T A N S-12 standards are blends of equal amounts each of the fo l low ing 12 elements: Ag A l Cr Cu Fe M g Na Ni Pb Si Sn Ti
C O N O S T A N S-21 standards are blends of equal amounts of the fo l low ing elements: Ag ΑΙ Β Ba Ca Cd Cr Cu Fe M g M n M o Na Ni Ρ Pb Si Sn Ti V Zn
These elements are b lended to approximately 75 cSt viscosity in a hydrocarbon oi l . They are available at the fo l l ow ing concentrat ions: 900, 500, 300,100, 50, 30 and 10 p p m , packaged in polyethylene bottles.
Mercury, Arsenic, Selenium These metals in oi l are available for reference
standards at 100 p p m . The reliability of these standards is comparable to the 5000 p p m series, but cont ro l analyses are run by methods appropr iate to the low levels at wh ich they are used.
Quality CONOSTAN standards are compatible w i th each
other in any oi l w i t hou t the need for solubilizers. CONOSTAN standards are relatively stable. Some
di lute solutions do need a stabilizer, wh ich is available w i th the standards requi r ing it. For details, you should contact the CONOSTAN Division.
Freeze-thaw tests on b lended CONOSTAN standards show no problems on storage between -40°F and 150°F.
CONOSTAN standards are nonvolatile, being made in oils having a m i n i m u m of 340°F flash point .
C O N O S T A N standards are soluble in ketones as wel l as all hydrocarbons.
