Capuchin Franciscan Sacred Heart Sisters
Come, Holy Spirit!
The Capuchin Friars, Sisters of the Sacred Heart, and the parish, join me
in congratulating our candidates who received the Sacrament of Confir-
mation last Saturday by Bishop Robert Barron, Regional Bishop. Let us
pray that these young people will continue to grow in the love and prac-
tice of their Catholic Faith. I want to express my gratitude to their par-
ents and families who have sacrificed and loved them through this two
year process.
May the Lord bless them and their families all the days of their lives.
Fr. Matt, OFM Cap.
This weekend, April 30 & May 1, the second collection
will be for the Religious Education Program. Please give
generously for spiritual enrichment of our children.
THE GIFT OF PEACE
We are offered another vision in today’s second reading, a vision of
the New Jerusalem, “coming down out of heaven from God” (Revelation
21:10). Read between the lines describing the radiant city, and we find
that the greatest beauty revealed is the beauty of perfect symmetry and
order, a city founded on the faith of the twelve tribes of Israel and the
Twelve Apostles, lit only by the glory of God.
The first reading and the Gospel are linked to this idealized descrip-
tion of the New Jerusalem. In both we read of distress and disturbance
countered by the gift of peace. “[M]y peace I give to you,” Jesus assures
his disciples at the Last Supper (John 14:27). In keeping with that gift, the
apostles and elders, in the reading from Acts, decide not to disturb the
peace of new Gentile believers. The undue burden of circumcision will
not be imposed on them. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.

Fingerprinting Sessions
The next fingerprinting session at
Old Mission Santa Ines will be
Friday, May 13, in the downstairs
conference room. Please call the
parish office to RSVP.
Holy Communion
In May we will be experimenting with
some different arrangements to see if
Holy Communion can proceed more
smoothly. Our one-aisle church limits
the possibilities, but we have a few
new ideas. For example, the liturgical
ministers who distribute the Eucharist
will take up positions in the back of
the church as well as at the altar, and
parishioners who are unable to come
forward because of infirmity will be
served first. The priest at each Mass
will provide guidance, and ushers will
direct communicants. Please be patient
while we try out different options.
Your feedback and suggestions are
welcome. This change will take ef-
fect next weekend, May 7 and 8.
Dates to remember:
Last day of classes for this year
are May 10 & 11.
First Communion practice in
the church Monday, May 9, at
6:30 PM, in English.
First Communion day is Satur-
day, May 14, (9:30 AM in Eng-
lish & 11:30 AM in Spanish.)
Hearing Loop
Receivers are available
at all Masses. Anyone
needing hearing assis-
tance at Mass can see an
usher. These are on loan and must be
returned after Mass. Loop buds are
available for purchase at a retail cost
of $69. For more information, call the
parish office.

Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co.
