Diseño, Síntesis y Caracterización de Polímeros de Coordinación
Ana Belén Lago BlancoVigo, 2008

41
1) The ligand bis(4-pyridylthio)methane (4bpytm) leads to coordination networks through space in 1D, 2D and 3D architectures, acting as bridge between the metal ions Cu(II), Cu(I) and Ag(I) using both N-donor atoms to make the convenient interaction metal-ligand. The coordination through the sulphur atom only appear in one silver(I) complex. 4bpytm display different conformational arrangements with different symmetries depending upon the values of the torsion angles. The ligand was found to exist predominantly in the GG form (72,5%) with a smaller percentage of the TG conformer (22,5%) and AA form (5%).
2) The metal ion copper(II) allows different number of coordination (4, 5 and 6) and a wide variety of coordination geometries (square-planar, trigonal-bipyramidal, and distorted 4+2 octahedral) in the halides complexes. However, when we use different counterion such as NO3
-, BF4- and SO4
2-, the metal centre adopt distorted octahedral coordination geometries (4+2 or 4+1+1´). Moreover, the complexes of Cu(II) with acetate, oxalate, 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylate, glycolate and 2-methyllactate always have a square-pyramidal coordination geometry, so that formiate and lactate are the unique cases with different coordination geometries (square-planar, square-pyramidal and octahedral type 4+2).
3) The four compounds obtained with Ag(I) adopt coordination numbers from 2 to 4 with linear, trigonal-planar and tetrahedral coordination geometries. The last case involved the thioether sulphur in the coordination.
Conclusions
42
4) The cleavage of the C-S bond in 4bpytm was observed under hydrothermal synthetic conditions, showing a chemical rearrangement that have yielded 4,4´-dipyridyldisulfide in the corresponding oxalate copper(II) complex.
5) The microwave synthesis method has been shown to provide an efficient way to synthesize and crystallize pure materials with short times. In these systems, microwave method using dmf as solvent was used to get several pseudo-polymorphs. In this sense, the solvent can influence the overall structure being involved in week interactions or acting as guest molecules in void spaces in the solid state.
6) In polymeric structures of Cu(II) and 4bpytm we have observed that without a functional group donor of hydrogen in the auxiliar ligand, the interactions responsible for supramolecular organization involve always a CH-pyridine group like donor. When a CHpy-Sthioether interaction is present, sheet interpenetration has been obtained. When we used α-hydroxycarboxylates as auxiliar ligands the first supramolecular association is organized by the effect of OH…O hydrogen bonds involving the hydroxyl of the carboxylate group. In the Ag(I) complexes we have observed that supramolecular organization is due to Ag…S interactions and Ag…Ag interactions are observed in only one case.
Conclusions
43
8) Bis(2-pyridylthio)methane (2bpytm) exhibit different coordination modes in their halides copper compounds leading to dimmer molecules and 1D and 2D coordination polymers. In most of them, 2bpytm acts as N,N´-bis(monodentate) bridge except with Cu(I) where it acts as N,N´,S-tridentate. Copper(II) is in a square-planar and square-pyramidal coordination geometries and tetrahedral in complexes of copper(I). The supramolecular organization result always from CH…X interactions in all cases.
9) 4bpytm show emission at 77K in the solid state that is stronger in one complex with CuI. Nevertheless, 2bpytm and its complexes with CuI show a weak luminescence.
10) The reaction of 2bpytm with sulphate, nitrate, acetate, formiate and tetrafluoroborate of copper(II), produces transformations of 2bpytm, leading to 2-pyridinesulfur, 2-pyridinesulfinate and/or 2-pyridinesulfonate.
7) The metal-organic frameworks in 1D (with acetate) and 2D (with glicolate) coordination polymers offer an appropriate environment to stabilize two 1D water morphologies: a treelike chain in the acetate complex and a staircase-like T4(2) tape in the glicolate compound.
